Saharsa, on the banks of the mighty Koshi river, is the gateway to the Koshi region of north Bihar — a land of rich heritage, pleasant climate and warm people. It is home to Lord Buddha Koshi Medical College & Hospital, serving the healthcare and education needs of the region.
Saharsa derives its name from the saint Kaushik, after whom the Koshi river is named. The region was the homeland of the celebrated scholar Pandit Mandan Mishra, known for his philosophical debate with Adi Shankaracharya. The area also carries a historic Buddhist influence — Lord Buddha's birthplace at Lumbini (Nepal) lies about 150–200 km to the north-east.
Blessed by its proximity to the Himalayan range, Saharsa enjoys pleasant weather for much of the year, with lush green fields, clear skies and clean air. It is a fast-developing district headquarters with growing education, healthcare and transport infrastructure.
